2019 Reflection

Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome to another blog post today I will be writing a reflection on my biggest achievement.

I have done many things this year but I am going to start from the beginning, for term 1 I was going to another school I was at St. Bernadette's which is a primary school, I was going through some things at that school and me and my mother decided to wait until the end of term 1 and then go to Hornby High for term 2. So it was term 2 and I had started at Hornby High School I was very nervous but I got over it and that was my biggest achievement of 2019.

Make our own activity ~ Playing To Win

Hello fellow readers and for today's task I will be making my own activity, it will be based off of the Novel study I have been reading Playing To Win.

The activity that I have decided to do is find 4 words in the book that you do not completely understand and find the meaning then use the word in a sentence. It must be in full sentences.

Heaving means extremely crowded ~ I walked around the heaving mess.

Pity means feeling sorry for someone ~ I pitied my uncle for the things he had done.

Pre- match means in or relating to the period before a sports match ~ I had a Pre - match the day before the actual game.

Flourish means develop rapidly ~ I flourished the techniques in sports.

I hope you liked the activity that I made :)

Book Review ~ Playing To Win

Aloha fellow readers and welcome to another blog post for this blog post I will be reviewing the book Playing To Win by Fleur Beale.

Overall this book is really interesting and it really hooks you in I have only had this novel book for three weeks and I have already finished the story I couldn't stop because at the end of each chapter in always left a hook. I recommend this story for 12+ because there is some inappropriate language for any younger child. I give this story a 10/10 as I really enjoyed reading it and I am actually contemplating buying the book for myself.

If you enjoy reading mystery, drama, romance books than this book will be perfect for you because it has all of that. the mystery is why Alice hates rugby, the drama is between Todd Denny and Alice and the Romance is between Denny and Alice and kind of between Todd and Alice.  The strength of the book is when Denny get's friends. The weakness is when Denny feels that he doesn't fit into the friend group.

Hope you enjoyed this blog post.

Conflict ~ Playing To Win

Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome to another blog post about Playing to Win, today for one of my reading tasks I have to write about the conflict between Denny and Alice in the last few chapters.

There is conflict between Denny and Alice because Alice hates rugby and Denny's playing rugby. The reason why Alice hates rugby is because the year before the story is based on Alice's brother played rugby and she supported him at every game and one day he went to a rugby party and he got drunk and then drove home drunk and crashed ad was killed.

Denny disagree's with Alice because just because her brother was at a rugby party before he died doesn't mean that rugby is to blame for his death, and he tells her that but she still disagree's.

That is the reason why Denny and Alice are having conflict in the last few chapters.

Conflict means a disagreement or argument about a certain topic.

Hope you enjoyed this blog post :)

Redesigning the Cover of the Book ~ Playing To Win

Aloha fellow readers and welcome to another blog post for today's blog post I will be redesigning the book cover for Playing to Win this is the original book cover.

Fish out of Water ~ Playing to Win

Aloha fellow readers and welcome to another blog post today we will be talking about a time in my life that I felt like a "Fish out of Water".

The time that I will be talking about is when I first moved schools and came to Hornby High School, I felt like I wouldn't find friends because it looked like they had all made friend groups and they wouldn't want any one else in their friend group and then I met three people, Felicity, Hayley and Tasharn and they became my best friends.

Than Felicity introduced me to her friend group and I got to know each person better and know we are all friends and I feel like I fit in.

Some advice that I would give Denny when he moved schools is don't be one to judge quickly and don't be shy.

Also to try not to get into trouble with students and stay on a certain amount of peoples good sides.

Hoe you enjoyed this blog post :)

Denny & Todd ~ Playing to Win

Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome to another blog post today we are going to be writing about the tension between Todd and Denny.

I think that Todd despises Denny because Todd can see how Alice likes to talk to Denny and Denny likes Alice and Todd likes Alice.

I think that Todd is jealous of Denny and Alice's friendship.

I am certain that Todd feels frustrated that he tries so hard to get Alice to like him and she finds a way to make it non romantic and finds a way to get a laugh out of it.

I think this because in the story it says that Todd glares at Denny when he talks to Alice or when Alice talks to him.

I hope you enjoyed my blog post :)

Playing To Win ~ Reading

Welcome to another blog post for today's blog post I am going to be talking about what I have been doing for reading, for reading I have been reading a story called "Playing To Win " this story is about a 17 year old boy named Denny and he transfers schools to a more posh and well located place.

Denny meet's a girl called Alice and a male called Todd and Todd is very rude and he is very protective of Alice because he likes her, and Denny realises that he likes Alice but knows that he cannot be with her as Todd likes her.

At the end of chapter 3 Alice and Todd are fooling around in a lake and Denny is upset because he feels left out.

I am really enjoying this book and I hope that you like the sound of it too :)

PE ~ Soccer ⚽

Aloha, Today's blog post we will be talking about the sport that my group taught as you saw by the title my group taught Soccer in my group we have Tasharn, Camryn, Josh, Vin, Saia,  Loloma and Raritonga.

Me and Tasharn leaded the warm ups and we both think that it went well and we think we contributed a decent amount of time to the people we were teaching, I think that our team was successful with teaching the class how to play soccer and my team thinks that they listened really well.

Next time we taught the class a game we should set up what we are doing a while before we actually teach the class, I also think that we should spread the teams time out more evenly because one of the teams got like 10 minutes and the other team got 30 minutes.

I learnt that you cannot touch the ball with your hand at any time or it is the other teams ball I also learnt to not allow the rest of your team mates to take control of the whole thing other wise you won't have a good set up and you will not know what you are doing.

Apart from the things we should change I think that we taught what we were doing really well and I am pretty sure the people we taught enjoyed the games.

Here is a picture of the game we were teaching..

Pocket Money

Hello fellow bloggers and welcome to another blog post for today's blog post we will be talking about DMIC maths for DMIC maths we were all on the mat and we were talking about what is the pattern in this picture and what are the similarities and differences in this pattern.

Here is the image .....

here is another task we did we were put into 5 groups. In my group I had Tasharn, Kya, TJ, Alex and Jrae we found this task fun because it made us think about what we were doing and it was reasonably difficult for this task we had to answer multiple questions this is the task we were given...

We worked together as a group to figure out the answers but for today's given task we were told to come up with our own way of figuring the question out I was unable to do this task in my maths book so I have done it on a whiteboard here is my work..

I hope you understand how I worked this out :)

Lili Reinhart ~ Cool To Be Kind

Today for C.I.P we have been looking at people who have changed the world through there kindness. For this task I chose Lili Reinhart because she is always spreading positive messages and is always supporting her followers, family and friends. She is an inspiration to females and males and supports LGBTQ + . We all got a sheet of paper and were told to answer the questions on it.

Here is my work.

Hope you enjoyed this blog post about Lili Reinhart.

Digital Technology

Hello readers and welcome to another blog post today's blog post is going to be about what we have been doing in digital technology.

For the past 3 weeks we have been working on our environmental issue project for this project we have been creating an ocean lay out, and adding seaweed and rubbish to it to show how bad ocean pollution is getting, We were told to make either an app a game or use the sphero's to create something .

My group decided to get creative and we made a game with the sphero's for this game there of course will be a challenge, the player's challenge is to avoid all the obstacles e.g seaweed and collect the rubbish if you crash into any of the obstacles you have to place the rubbish back where you found it and restart from the starting sign.

All you have to do for this task is collect the rubbish and get to the finish line.

If you ever have the chance to play with it I hope you enjoy it, I also hope that I helped you to understand the game.

Playing To Win

For today's task we were told to answer questions about the story Playing To Win without reading the actual story itself.

I think this book will be about a rugby team who are not used to winning but there team gets motivated and they start playing to win.

I think that it is important to read stories from New Zealand authors so that it is possible to meet them and ask them about the stories. I also think that it is important so that we can understand some of the traditional New Zealand things.

Yes, I do agree with the statement playing to win because it means that they believe that they can win and they are confident in themselves without being rude about it.

I now know that the story might involve physical contact like fighting and it might be about how they used to play to win and know they put there sadness into fighting and how the team at the end of the story wins there first game in ages and they come together again.

I think that I can't say if I will like it or not because I haven't started the story and I don't know enough about it to know if I like it or not but I like a lot of things so there is a chance I will like the story.

Thank you for acknowledging this blog post. bye.

Orana Park

Hello fellow readers and welcome back to my blog. Today's blog post will be about a trip that Bh and Tz took to Orana Park. This trip took place on the 23rd of September on a Monday. Our transportation was a 11 seated van and a bus. Once we arrived at Orana park we got of the bus and a lady called Elizabeth told us the rules.

Once she had told us the rules Tz and Bh went to see the Meerkat's. Once we had seen the Meerkat's we split off into 2 groups group 1 and group 2.

I was in group 2 with my best friend Tasharn and some other students, in each group there where roughly 20 -27 students. When we split into 2 groups a Orana park teacher went with each group, the Orana park teacher that was with group 2 was Bethany and the Orana park teacher that was with group 1 was Elizabeth.

The teacher's that were with us on the trip to Orana park were Miss Birtch and Miss Tozer.

Miss Birtch was with group 1 and Miss Tozer was with group 2. I really enjoyed the trip to Orana park because I got to learn plenty of new information about animals e.g Gorillas thump there chest when they are scared etc I also enjoyed it because the students from Bh and Tz got to feed the giraffes.

Here is a picture of the Orana park Meerkats.

Hope you enjoyed my blog post.

Free Writing Story.

Kia Ora and welcome to my blog post we had two working from home day's as the teacher's moved furniture and things into our new Kahui's and were given tasks to do, for one of them we got a option on what we wanted to do and one of the options was to write a story so here is the story I have written.

That Night

The two coins in his pocket clinked together as he stumbled down the cold pavement, the
holes in his shoes turning his feet into blocks of ice.  His heart turned cold as he felt icy fingers
gripping his arm.He then felt a hard and scratchy fabric being placed over top of his mouth and nose.
Later on he found himself lying on a comfortable couch wrapped up in two warm and cozy blankets,
he blinked and then blinked again thinking that it was all a dream.

He was confused about what had happened because he didn’t know what happened.

When she walked into the room, his face lit up looking like Rudolf the reindeer but his red nose being all
over his face.

He gave her a saucy wink she says “ is your eye ok there, you appear to have a nervous twitch,''
he winks again she then says “ I think we need to get you to a doctor”.

She says her name is Riley breaking the awkward silence between them he says “ Hi Riley i’m Poot “

He watches her fall to the ground calling an ambulance…………

TO BE CONTINUED...

Hope you enjoyed my story :)

Hurumanu PE Blog

Hello fellow bloggers for today's blog post we will be talking about our Physical Education class so the first thing I am going to be talking about is the warm ups.

We do warm up's to ready our body for a game of something we also use warm up's to stretch our body giving a lower chance of injuring your body e.g Stretching you muscles to fast and hard, on Monday we had PE for PE as you know we have been split into groups and named our teams and chose a sport, So for Monday the team French Fries taught us the sport Bench ball.

Before we begun the game of bench ball we did some warm ups the warm ups that we did were 40 Star-jumps 10 times running up and down the court and 20 High Knees I found this very tiring.

The next thing we did was a drill the purpose for a drill is teaching you a skill that you will need for a game.

For the drill we played sneak up granny at first we weren't really sure how this was teaching a skill for bench ball, but as we started to play we found out what skill it was teaching us the skill was sneaking up beside or behind someone so if someone passed the ball to them you would be able to quickly snatch it out of their hands or something like that.

After the drill and warm up's we started to play, PE hurumanu is a joint hurumanu between Tz and Bh year 7 and 8's so for the first game Tz and Bh year 7's versed each other and Tz and Bh's year 8's versed each other. Since I am a year 7 from Bh I versed the Year 7's from Tz unfortunately we lost but I really enjoyed playing the game for the next thing we did in PE hurumanu we swapped over and the year 7's versed the year 8's and in the end the year 8's did win.

That is what we did for the game side of PE hurumanu.

For the maths side of PE hurumanu we did maths that involved a field and there were multiple different questions that we needed to answer before finishing the maths my team got one part of the question right and the other part wrong  so we had to go back and our brains just got very muddled up so I didn't enjoy that maths side of PE .

I learnt some more skills/ strategies for maths like I learnt the working form.

Some of the strategies I used for figuring out the maths questions were Place Value, Rounding, Tidy Numbers etc.

I felt that the work was difficult in certain areas I can't really remember the questions at the moment but I know that they were difficult to work out other parts were rather easy though.

I hope you enjoyed this blog post about PE hurumanu.

C.I.P TerraCycle + Bic Stationary Recycling

Hello readers today for C.I.P we are going to be talking about the TerraCycle + Bic recycling programme that our C.I.P has signed up for.

For this project we are going to have to spread awareness to the community some of the way's we are doing this is by creating D.L.O’s and poster’s about what we are doing.

I think that parent’s from the student’s at Hornby High will be donating a large variety of pen’s, I also think that large companies will donate some of the pen’s.
One of the questions that the teacher's asked us to put in this blog post was how many kilo's do you think we will gather so I predict that we will gather 400kg or over that amount.
You are also probably wondering what we are going to do with the money we receive. I think we should put the money towards a charity for example Red Cross.
For this task we also had to create a D.L.O here is my D.L.O about TerraCycle + Bic ...

Hope this information helps you :)

Ella West

Today for first period all of the year 7/8's went to the auditorium to see a author called Ella West....

A while ago Mrs Allan- Fletcher and her class read a story called Night Vision once they had completed reading the book they made a blog post about the story Night Vision talking about Ella West and Commenting on her book.

After her class had made a blog post on their blogs they had found out that Ella West had seen their blog post's and she decided to come all the way from Dunedin to see and talk to the year 7 and 8 group about the stories she had written.

So today as what I said at the start of the blog Ella West came in to visit the year 7 and 8's, The main stories she talked about with us were Rain Fall and Night Vision, She basically just talked about what gave her the idea of writing these stories and where the stories are based, for example Night Vision is based in Ashburton and Rain Fall is based in West-port.

One of the other things that she talked about with us was that her first stories weren't as great as her older stories and also that over the years she could tell that her knowledge had grown on certain topics and that her books had improved in their information over the years.

She also talked about how she couldn't make the top 10 New Zealand authors because her publisher made the ISBN Australian so she wouldn't be able to get any profit because of the ISBN number, another thing she talked about was how a Italian translator translated a copy of Night Vision into Italian.

I loved the talk that we had with Ella West I liked how she described how she had intertwined facts from history into her book and that's what I loved about the talk with Ella West.
I would love to have a talk with more New Zealand author's.

These are the covers of two of the books that Ella West talked about.

Digital Tech.

For Digital Technology today we are righting a reflection on how we feel about digital technology I think that digital technology will help with your future career if you are looking to become a cyber smart teacher etc.

So far in digital technology we have been learning about environmental social and ethical issues, once we had studied and informed ourselves upon these issues we had to choose one of the three, I chose social issue because I wanted to spread awareness of drug and alcohol abuse and also Gender identification bullying.

I strongly believe that people should not be bullied for what they want in life it's not fair.

Something else we have done is we watched three videos about all three issues.
Here are the videos we watched.

Environmental issue.

Social issue.

Ethical issue.

For the Social Environmental and Ethical issues research we had to make a copy of  a doc and put our research on that doc.

Here is the link to my doc.
D.L.O

I am going to be creating a game to help spread awareness about these topics to help these people to feel supported and cared for.

Some of the websites I used to find out all this information are
Link 1 , Link 2 , Link 3 , Link 4.

From these sites I  have learnt that there is a large amount of people who are unaware that they are abusing as there mind is being wiped by these chemicals.

One other thing I learnt is that Gender identification is a very common thing to be bullied from as people find it disgusting that girls act like boys because they wanna be boys and boys act like girls because they wanna be girls or some people just wanna be both so they act like both and have 2 personalities I personally respect this and wanna let people be who they wanna be but this is the information I gathered from the sites.

The topic that I decided to focus my main attention on is gender identification because I feel that some people are unaware of other peoples feelings in that sort of way and that people need to know about this topic as those people are under appreciated.

Hope you enjoyed this blog post.

P.E Blog Post

Hello fellow readers today I will be blogging about physical education class. This week for P.E we have been choosing a sport to learn about my group is Sticky Rice.
We chose to learn about the sport Softball, Softball is very complex. Our team is going okay at the moment. Something that has challenged me this week is finding the rules you need to play softball, also remembering those rules.
I think that my team works well together and there communication comes easily.
Something that I enjoy about P.E is that it gets your heart beating and I get very happy because I love physical activities.

Today for P.E we were practising our drills and warm ups that we had written down on a template that we share with our group.

Some of our warm ups were:
- Star Jumps
- Lunges
- Running on the stop etc

What we did for our drill was we passed and caught the ball to help improve our passing and catching so we can get better to help us with the passing and catching part in softball.

I found we did this very well.

Thank You for treading this blogpost :)

How does learning impact the community.

It helps us to share our opinions and it impacts our community by ...
It can help us to share our learning so others can gain information on a certain subject to help improve theirs.
Also to help them learn about things that happen in your school that they don't do in theirs.

What They Do For Us

Hello Readers today we will be talking about Kids Can and what they do to help New Zealand our task for today was making a D.L.O about what Kids Can does for us since we are donating the money to them from 8 August mufti day so we are writing a post about what they are going to do with the money.

This is the poster that I made giving the information about  Kids Can ........

Radical Rainbow ( Mufti Day )

Hello Fellow Readers and welcome to another blog post about C.I.P for C.I.P last week we planned out a mufti day, to plan out this mufti day we got given a piece of paper and on this piece of paper we had to write as many mufti ideas we possibly could. After this we had to sit on the mat and share ideas with the class. Once we had done this we voted on which mufti theme we wanted... Nearly all of us chose radical rainbow which is how we chose the theme.
Finally we were given a piece of paper with some writing on it and we had to decorate the piece of paper with colours and information, the things that we had to include in this poster were a gold coin donation for kids can and what day it was happening. Something that will make a mufti day successful is heaps of planning and plenty of information given to the students about the mufti day. This is spreading kindness to our community by giving them smiles because who doesn't smile when you see a rainbow. :) (=>.<=)

... This is the poster that I created...

This is my poster  for this I may have gone a bit too far with the drawings but I wanted to make the poster more interesting I hope you enjoyed looking at my poster have a lovely day :)

Investigation.

What is biomass?
The total quantity of weight in a certain area or volume.
What are the 5 types of biomass?

  1.  Wood
  2.  Solid Waste
  3.  Landfill gas and biomass
  4.  Alcohol fuels
  5.  Bio gas
What are three benefits of biomass?
  1.   Renewable Source Of Energy.
  2.   It Is Carbon Neutral.
  3.   Less expensive than fossil fuels.

What are three disadvantages of biomass?
  1.   Biomass energy is not as efficient as fossil fuels
  2.   It is not entirely clean
  3.   Biomass plants require a lot of space.

Research the following types of Biomass.
You will need to:
Write a definition of the each fuel.
Answer each question
  • How is it made?
  • What is it used for?
  • Where is it made?
  • What is it made with?
  • What countries use it?
Place 2 images of the fuel.
