Wind speed - Making an anemometer.

Anemometer

MATERIALS

  1.                                           Straws (x4)
  2. Cups (x4)
  3. Pin.
  4. Pencil.
  5.  Tape.

STEPS

  1.   Make holes on each side of each cup
  2.   Connect the four straws together stick straws through the cup holes.
  3.   Bend the leftover straw and tape to cup.
  4.   Make sure the cups openings are facing the other cup.
  5.   Stick pin through straws connect the rubber on the pencil.
  6.   Put outside and try it out.
Once you have made an anemometer we are going to record the wind speed.

Group size: 5

You will need:

Anemometer (above)

Roles:

  • Timekeeper
  • Counter
  • Recorder
  • Anemometer Manager
  • Wind generator
  1. Mount the anemometer in a place that has full access to the wind from all directions.
  2. When the time keeper says "Go", the counter in each group will count how many times the marked cup passes them in one minute and write it down.
  3. If possible, repeat the above step four (4) times and record the average number of spins on the chart.

FINDINGS

  • Record how many times it spins using the table below.
You will need to create the wind yourself by blowing. Get 4 different wind speeds by blowing.

You will need to time them and count the number of spins.

Time IntervalNumber of Spins
1.10 sec7 spins
2.10 sec6 spins
3.10 sec6 spins
4.10 sec5 spins
  • Can you make a statement connecting the number of spins of your anemometer and the speed of the wind?

Manaakitanga Story

Hello fellow readers for Art for the past few weeks we have been making
narrative stories to go with our animations I got inspired by a book called
lost girl by R.L Stine. Here is my story I have not yet gotten to the manaakitanga
point of view here is my narrative story.

It was night and I couldn’t take it anymore, all of the yelling and talking
made me dizzy and of course my dad had to flip out over something stupid.
I ran and I ran until my legs couldn’t bare it anymore, I promised him I could
and I would meet him in the late hours of the day at the grantham park but of
course my dad had to flip out…..

I had been waiting for 2 hours it was nearly midnight and he still hadn’t turned
up “ I WAS ANGRY”. I was waiting furiously tapping the keys on my phone, I heard sounds in
the bushes but didn’t acknowledge them, until I felt something sharp and heavy hit the back
of my head.

The next thing I know I’m lying in a bed listening to a guy telling
me that everything was going to be ok.

The first time I saw him I thought he was an animal his hair greasy and slicked back,
his nails uneven and dirty, I was not proud of calling him my father,
and once again we were
in a fight but this time he got physical, Luckily Crystal came running into the house
saw my dad choking me and pushed him away screaming, “ DON’T YOU EVER TOUCH
HIM AGAIN” she slams him into the wall grabs my arm and pulls me away she says to me
“ Why didn’t you defend yourself Kyoya “ Kyoya responds with “ I couldn’t hurt my father”
okay I understand but you need to start defending yourself because one day I'm not going
to be there to protect you, anyway” have you seen Hadley today” “no I have not” “in fact
I haven’t
talked to her at all this week'' `` oh that’s weird she's not answering her phone”.

Unfortunately I was unable to finish my story but I hoped you enjoyed
reading my story as much as I did with creating it.😁

Night Vision

For the next few weeks we are going to be reading a novel my groups novel is "Night Vision" by Ella West sadly were told not to read the book because my teacher Miss Birtch wants to get our first impressions on the book we were given 5 questions to answer just by looking at the cover of the book so here are my answers.

~ I predict that this book might be about a girl who has night vision and struggles to get out of something bad but I am not quite sure about what that something is, I also think that something bad is somehow linked to a field or a forest.

~ The information that I get from the back of the book is that this girl can't get to sleep and her mind draws attention to a forest so she goes there , and before she left she brings her night vision goggle's and she finds something very bad out.

Image result for night vision ella west~ I think that the genre for the story Night vision is a thriller and adventure, I think
this because the back sounds scary like a thriller and it sounds like a adventure because
she get's drawn to a forest in the middle of the night.

~  This book does indeed sound interesting to me because personally I read a lot of books like Night Vision and I really enjoy them so yes I do think that i'm going to enjoy the book Night Vision.

~ When I have finished a novel study I tend to be happy because I feel like yay I have finished this novel but then I get annoyed because it's so interesting I just want to read more and more of the story and I can't. But I love doing a novel study because you get to use heaps of information and i just really enjoy it.

~ My personal comment : overall I think that this book looks very interesting and I think that it will tick all my boxes.

Hope you enjoyed

Cool to be kind.

Hello fellow readers for C.I.P today we had to make a animation about kindness we looked at a video and went on from there. I really enjoyed this task especially creating the animation, I hope you enjoy watching and reading it as much as I did with creating it.

Hope you enjoyed :)

Hurumanu .........Climate Change

The Water Cycle: Bag 1
CO2 Water Cycle: Bag 2
Acid
Desert Water Cycle
Bag 3
Does it cycle?
YesYesYes
Amount of Water
222
Acidity
131

Key: Water and acidity amount:
1 = none
2 = small
3 = large

Other comments:

{1} Bag 1 cycle water
{2} Bag 1 had a small amount of water
{3} The acidity of Bag 1 was low

{1} Bag 2 CO2 Cycle water
{2} Bag 2 had a small a amount of water
{3} The acidity of bag 2 was large

{1} Bag 3 Desert Cycle Water
{2} Bag 3 had a small amount of water
{3} The acidity of bag 3 was low

Conclusion:

Bag 1 ~ In conclusion for bag 1 I think that it wasn't as good as bag 2 as there were better marks for bag 2.

Bag 2 ~ In conclusion for bag 2 I think that it could have gone better.

Bag 3  ~ In conclusion It didn't work as well as the other 2 test's

Materials:
Water
Bags
Food Colouring
Litmus paper
Permanent Marker
Sand
Steps :
Step 1 : Draw water cycle on bag's and name the bag's.
Step 2 : Pour a cup of normal water into one bag and soda water into the other.
Step 3:  Add two drops of food colouring into each bag.
Step 4 : Seal the bags but leave a little gap in the bag with the soda water.
Step 5 : Put a piece of litmus paper in the gap you left in the soda water bag do not put in other bags.
Step 6 : Put on window and wait for the magic to happen.

Acidification
Definition ~ The action or process of making or becoming acidic.

The affect acidification that is involved with climate change is there is heaps of gas in the air. People burning things and its turning into carbon dioxide. Leaving air bubbles in the ocean causing fish to suffocate. Leaving them to die.

Deforestation
Definition : The action of cleaning a area of trees

Burning or cutting down trees. Releases green house gasses into the atmosphere is causing animals to pass out.

Water Vapour
Definition: Water vapour is the raw material for clouds and rain formation.

As the climate warms, air temperatures rise. More evaporation from water sources and land occurs .This is increasing the atmospheric moisture content.

Ice Melt
Definition : The ice melts and causes sea levels to rise.

The ice melts and causes the sea levels to rise making land sink under the ocean causing a over population and food wasted.

Draw a labelled diagram of the Water Cycle

Water cycle words:
  1. Precipitation
  2. Hurricanes
  3. Acid rain
  4. Evaporation
  5. Carbon Dioxide
  6. Water
  7. Deforestation
  8. Water vapour

Art hurumanu

Hello fellow readers for the past four weeks we have been making whiteboard or clay stop motions with our groups, in my group we have Kya as Kyoya Meleanna as Crystal and me as Hadley,
we are in the whiteboard group and I have been really enjoying it, anyway to my disappointment we have only done one part of the animation which means we have not yet completed the animation but we are really hoping to finish it soon to our best possible state.

Hope you enjoyed this blog post till next time :)

7/8 passion's

Hello fellow readers in today's blog post we are going to be talking about the year 7/8 passions we had the options of choosing:
- Dancing
- Ukulele
- Singing
- Gym Sports
- Rugby Academy

Out of these 5 options I chose Dancing and Singing so for today's blog post we will be talking about my experience int these 2 groups.

I am going to be starting off with Dance I loved dance it was really fun and our dance teacher let us include our ideas into our routine and it was really enjoyable.

Singing was very different from what we did in our old school in singing we did heaps of old things and I was hoping that there would be some more pop new songs but there weren't but it was still very enjoyable.

In C.I.P we have been making colouring in competitions for Hornby Primary, Gilberthorpe and St Bernadette's school, For the colouring in competition we were aloud to choose our partners and we had to choose what we would do write a poster about what you do for the colouring comp or create a drawing for them to colour in and sending the letter to the schools and stores, And that has been it and me and my poster partner Kya are still working on our poster.

Hope you enjoyed this blogpost.

Hurumanu ............Climate Change

Hurumanu - Climate Change

Aim: To look at the causes of climate change and how to prevent it.

As you watch the video answer these questions:

What is our greatest threat in thousands of years?

How do we see climate change affecting the globe?
  1.   Flood
  2.   Extreme Storms
  3.  Strong Winds
  4.  Heat Waves

What is needed to change history?
Good Climate Change

Is climate change a man made disaster?
Yes

Dramatic action must be made in the next 10 years to change it?

Why is our climate changing?
Our world is getting hotter

What is causing the warming trend of the climate?
Something to do with the warmth around the earth.

What is the main problem?
The ice is melting which is making the oceands warm and dangerous

What are examples of these?
Cole,Oil and Gas

Burning fossil fuels releases what gas?
Carbon Dioxide, cole , oil, gas

How much hotter now is our world?
1 degree hotter

What do we call this global warming?
Climate change

How is this affecting creatures / animals like bats?
When they get too hot they die.

What percentage of species are near extinction?
only 11 thousand of the species died

How could this effect the world ecosystems?
Makes things extremely hot.

What global change was seen and recording breaking last year?

How is climate change affecting our weather systems?
1. Super Storms
2. Extreme Wind
3. Flooding

What is another effect of climate change?
Heat and warm winds.
What will happen if the ice melts in Antarctica and the Arctic?
The sea levels will rise causing some towns to flood.

How does this affect people?
It affects peoples homes and everyday lives.

What other things affect oceans change?
The animals in the ocean could die because of the heat.

What does too much heat do to the coral?
They bleach then die

Why did some industries not want to stop burning fossil fuels?
Because they are getting millions of dollars and they don't want to stop so its greed.

Stop at 23.39

Investigation

You can decide on how you would like to do this investigation. Your presentation could be on the blog, slides, or Powerpoint.

Write a definition, upload an image and list where these fossil fuels are mined.
