Mean, Median and Mode

Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another task for math's we have been learning mean median and mode. So for this task we had to create a D.L.O about each different thing. We had to put everything into our own words and have examples of what we were doing in the D.L.O. I found this task different from the other tasks we usually do.

Here is my D.L.O about mean, median and mode...

I hope you learnt something from this blog post.

Communication In Space

Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post I will be talking about what we have been doing for science. So for science we have been learning about the communication in space and what sources you could use. For this task we had to create a D.L.O answering questions that were on the science hurumanu site. Something that I learnt from this task was the different forms of communication that people use.

Here is the link to my biteable video about communication in space....

Secondary and Primary Sources

Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post I will be talking about what we have been learning in health so we have been learning about secondary and primary sources. For this task we had to create a D.L.O about the two different sources. It important to know the difference about these two sources because it helps you to understand also if someone says do you have any primary sources or something you will understand what they are talking about. I think the primary source is more trustworthy because its coming straight from the main source.

Here is my D.L.O about secondary and primary sources.......

New Zealand History ( What I've Learnt )

Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post I will be talking about what we have been doing for Who Are We hurumanu. So for Who Are We we have been learning about the New Zealand history at for yesterdays lesson the teacher read a story to us called six photos its about the story behind photos but today I am blogging about what I have learnt based off of the links that were put on the task board.

Something I learnt was that Jacinda Ardern said changes would be made to the national curriculum. I also learnt that these changes would be made in 2022. These changes are.. The new change will include the arrival of Maori the Treaty Of Waitangi and the immigration to New Zealand.

Another thing I learnt but it was from the story six photos was that there is always a story or message behind the photo its never just a photo.

100 Word Challenge

Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post I will be talking about what we have been doing for wananga. So for wananga we have been doing many tasks but the one that I am blogging about is the 100 word challenge basically your given a visual prompt and you have to write a story about that certain image. The thing is you can only have 100 words in this story you can have more characters than 100 just not words.

Here is my story........

I didn’t expect myself to be in this position. Once again I’m on a tightrope but this time it’s quite literal. Over the ocean next to the buildings scared to death of what could happen. How could I let this happen. I'm once again in a sticky life or death situation.  This all started when I was younger I was in and out of the circus doing random tricks and flips whatever was said was what had to happen, and guess what once again I'm in the circus but they upped the level of danger and now, again I'm falling.

This is the prompt I had to use.....

Becoming A Martian

Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post I will be talking about what we have been doing for science. So for Science we watched a video together from Chris Hadfield talking about his experience on being in space. He also talked about the pros and cons from the whole trip. The next thing we had to do was interdependently read an article about becoming a martian.

A mission to Mars or from Mars to Earth can occur every twenty- six months when the planets are the closest together in their orbit.  If you were to go on a trip to space or out of space not during this time it will become difficult to get the rocket to the other planet because they are not at their closest point. Two geological features of Mars are number one Mars is known as the red planet it is red because of the amount of iron oxide on it another geological feature is the polar ice caps.

One of the possible solutions to the lack of oxygen on Mars is there is a machine that splits carbon dioxide into carbon monoxide and oxygen so that will increase the amount of oxygen on mars NASA planned to send the machine this year.

Since it doesn't rain on Mars you must be wondering where the water comes from well it comes from the polar ice caps beneath the frozen carbon dioxide the only thing is the water is filled with toxic salts so you would have to purify the water the only other thing is sticking to purifying and drinking their urine.

Since their are solutions to getting water you might be thinking how are they going to get food. Well they have considered trying to grow plants on Mars but they would need to change the atmosphere into a similar one to Earths. They already use something other than soil called hydroponics, they could also use special nutrient rich water but if you wanted to live on the Mar's you would have to make the atmosphere similar to Earth's. If Mars was warmer it would heighten the chance of growing plants. They could make Mars warmer by getting giant mirrors and they could orbit mars and direct sunlight on the polar ice caps this would thaw all the carbon dioxide.

I hope you enjoy this blog post.

Poetic Arts Learning Story

Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post I will be talking about what we have been doing for the Poetic Arts hurumanu. So for Poetic Arts we have been creating learning stories a learning story is a reflection on what you have been doing for the past term in that certain hurumanu in this case its term 2 and the hurumanu I have been doing is Poetic Arts. For this activity I really tried to express how I felt about it and I personally think I did pretty well. We also had stories read to us these stories were Taniwha and Rakaia Gorge and The Creation Of Tuna.

Here is my Learning Story....

My Learning Story
Hurumanu:Poetic Arts
Name: Shelby O’Donoghue

Term
2020

Reflection:
Give at least three examples in each of the boxes below.
What We Did:
  • Watercolor art
  • Weaving
  • Tapa Cloth
What I Learned:
  •  I learnt that for a haiku poem the pattern is 7 5 7.
  •  I learnt a new watercolor technique which was salt.
  •  I also learnt a new type of poem which was diamante poem.
My Favourite Part:
  •  My favourite part was probably the water colour because the paint was easy to use.
  •  My second favourite part was the weaving because we got to control what colors we could use.
  •  My third favourite thing was the tapa cloth.
My Next Steps:
  •  My next steps for art is to educate myself on more techniques.
  •  Also to focus on my work instead of what my friends are talking about.
  •  My last next step is to think about what I am saying before I actually say it.

CARR Values:
Make a statement below describing how you showed each of our CARR values during this Hurumanu.
Commitment
I committed to every piece of art that we did and put effort into the task given.
Achievement
I always ended up being proud of the blog post’s I did. Also I was pleased with the way my art worked out.
Resilience
I didn’t give up even if I didn’t like the tasks given and if the task was difficult I still wouldn't give up.
Respect
I would do the task that was given and wouldn’t wander off.
Any other comments
I'm not meaning to be offensive or anything but the teacher’s did talk constantly repeating what we had to do even if all of the student’s knew what they were doing.

In conclusion I really enjoyed this activity and I hope you enjoyed reading about my Learning Story.

End of Paperboy

Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post I will be talking about the ending of the story Paperboy.

So for the end of the story Paperboy finds confidence in his speaking and he realizes that it doesn't matter how you say what you say it matters that you actually say it. He also finds a way of calming down his stuttering and he thinks of his loved ones. Something else that happens near the end of the story is on the cafeteria menu they have Vienna sausages wrapped in bread and Little man doesn't want to eat it because Ara T ate it so he covers up by saying it looks like dog turds wrapped in bread and a kid changes what it says on the board to that. To be completely honest the ending wasn't what I expected but at the same time it was because I expected him to completely get rid of his stuttering but he didn't he just found a way to calm it down so yeah. Over all I really enjoyed this novel study and I hope to do another one next term.

Letter to Vince Vawter

Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post I will be writing a letter to the author of the novel I have been reading called Paperboy.

I have many questions for Vince Vawter one of them being why did you write the story how you wrote it ?, and what inspired you to write this story ?. I personally have enjoyed the story so far and am certain that I will enjoy the rest I am up to chapter 18 at the moment and can't wait to read more. I'm very inspired by your books and hope to aspire to be a great writer like you. Are you thinking about writing anymore stories ?. Do you have personal experience from this story ?. As I said I do have a lot of questions to ask. My favourite part of the book was when Little man finds out that his father is unknown. My second favourite part is when Little man meets Mr Spiro.

Hope you liked my letter to Vince Vawter.

Chapters 13-17 ( Paperboy )

Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's task I will be writing a short summary on the chapters 13-17 of paperboy.

In these chapters Mr Spiro tells Little man that he will be leaving to travel again and this upsets Little man so he goes home only to find out that someone had been into his room and taken some of his things including some money and a watch. Little man then calls his mam into the room and she gets really angry and tells little man to go give rats parents the money but little man follows mam and she finds out and ends up bringing him with her to this red building in an expensive part of town. Mam then tells Little man to hide in Ara T's cart and he does but struggles to breath so when he comes out he sees his mam pushed up against the wall being choked Little man then grabs a bottle and throws it at Ara T and it hits him in the forehead but he gets up and goes to strangle little man and does and then Little mans mam gets up and grabs Little Mans yellow handle knife and pushes into both of Ara T's arms. They then have a talk and walk out of the red building.
