Here is the D.L.O......

Characterization - The Gingerbread Man

Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post I will be talking bout what we are doing for reading. So for reading we are learning about protagonists and different types of characters in stories. Today we watched a gingerbread man video and have to describe moments in the video where they were showing direct and indirect characterization.

I think that the protagonists of the story are the old man and lady because it's based off of how they are living, and I think that the antagonist is the ginger bread man because he is trying to get in the way of the old man and lady eating their dinner. I also think that the ginger bread man is a static character because he doesn't change throughout the video.

A direct characterization about the old man and old lady is they were both lonely I know this because it said it in the start of the video and the old lady said that she was bored and lonely. An indirect characterization about the ginger bread man is that he is cheeky. I know this is indirect because there was no point in the video were it literally said he was cheeky. Three ways you could describe the ginger bread man with indirect characterization is hes cheeky, rude, naughty. This is indirect because it doesn't literally say he is one of these but you can see he is off of his actions. For instance when he kept on grinning because they couldn't catch him or when he was mean to the people and kept on teasing them.

Students Summit

Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post I will be talking about my experience at the student summit event. So my experience with watching other's present wasn't the best because of technical difficulties which was the sound on my device.

I personally really enjoyed presenting I found it fun and different from what I would usually do. There were a couple of difficulties with the group and device but apart from that it all went smoothly. We presented in session 1 and 2 and watched in session 3 and 4.

In my group we had Hayley, Kirsty, Susie, Riansha, Hannah and me and the teacher working with us was Whaea Rowena. Thank you to everyone who watched and listened to how to make a canva, and thank you to everyone who helped us.

Canterbury Earthquake

Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post I will be sharing with you some things I learnt about the Canterbury Earthquakes and how it affected people. So for today's task we had to listen to an audio of a story about the Canterbury Earthquakes.

Something I learnt from the Audio was the impact that the earthquake made on peoples lives was tremendous. People were without job's and companies buildings were in pieces, some family's also had some relatives that passed away. It also caused companies to end because they couldn't afford the re building of their smashed buildings. It also caused flooding which ruined some houses.

A positive out come of this was people came together and started helping and looking out for each other. A negative outcome was some companies couldn't rebuild and got shut down another negative outcome was there were lives lost.

Here is the D.L.O....

Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post I will be talking about what we have been doing for science. So for science we have been learning about different sources of energy the one we have been focusing on is solar. For this lesson and the last lesson of science we had to create a "Solar Oven".

We got given some materials e.g Cardboard box, long sticks, tin foil and tape and we had to create a place where you could melt things. In my team there was Kirsty, Isaac and Felicity. We then had to get a biscuit and marshmallows and put them in the "Solar Oven" then we had to use a magnifying glass and try and melt the food. After that we got to eat the biscuits and marshmallows.

Car Shopping

Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post I will be talking about what we have been doing for math's. So for math's we had a budget of $6000 and we had to buy a car and the insurance and rego, we also had to add the cost of fuel into it. For this task we were in groups in my group there was Diago, Isaac, Felicity and myself we had to find three cars under the budget of $6000 in that budget we had to include the other things. I learnt from this activity that not all people will get along. The $6000 budget was for every car so one car could have up to $6000 but then you'd still have that $6000 for the other two cars. I found working in groups very different to working in pairs because you have to communicate with other's more. It had to do with what we were learning about because we have been learning about money and saving.

Here is our work....

Last WW1 Work

Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post I will be talking about what we have been doing for Who are we hurumanu. So for Who are we hurumanu as you may know because of my other blog posts we have been learning about the WW1 and the impacts it had on people. Today we had to answer some questions and write a letter from a soon to be soldiers perspective. In this letter we had to include why we were joining. This was our finishing task as we are moving on to another topic....

Here is my work....

WW1

Questions 1: The New Zealand soldiers signed up for the war because they hoped that they would get something in return for helping the British empire. They also decided to sign up for the war because they were scared of invasion and they knew that if they joined the British empire they would become allies. Other people other than New Zealanders signed up for the war because something just clicked it was like there was a missing puzzle piece and joining the army and fighting to defend their home was like finding the puzzle piece and putting it in its place.

Question 2 : They were fighting in the areas for days on end.

Questions 3 : There were roughly 18,000 New Zealanders killed because of the war and there were 41,000 people that were wounded or ill.

Question 4 : The outcome of the war was a lot of people were harmed some physically and some mentally. There were a lot of depressed and upset people but the other outcome was the two empire’s or places that were fighting would always end up with a winner that would get the land or the thing they were fighting for.

Letter

Dear Family,

I have decided to join the British empire because I need to serve my country because it feels right and I want to do what’s right, if not for others then for myself. The dominating and constant arguing has gone on for too long and it’s time to put an end to it. This is to protect you and if not you then our people. The main reason for me joining the other soldiers is because something just clicks and it feels right to fight.

Kind regards.

I hope you enjoyed my blog post.
