Cooking

Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post, today's blog post is going to be about what we have been making in the past week for food tech. The cooking process wasn't too long for either of the dishes me and my team made. The first thing we made was loaded nachos it smelt like multiple different spices and it tasted like what it smelt like. When we were pulling the meat apart to start to prepare for cooking it I noticed that it felt slimy and I did not like it.

The second dish we made were quesadillas these tasted like a Mexican sensation they were so good the mixture of multiple different tastes were so delicious so good that quesadillas are now my favorite food.  The smells of the different seasonings got me drooling it smelt so good. It looked just as good as it tasted and smelt. The texture of the quesadillas was strange but my other senses were just filled with yummyness.

Here are two pictures of what the foods looked like...

Different Types Of Sentences

Kia Ora readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post I will be talking about the different types of sentences.

The first one I will be talking about is a very short sentence,  a very short sentence is a sentence that explains something in less then 5 words. A very short sentence has to make sense and had to contain everything a normal sentence would have. Here are four examples of a very short sentence.
- I still had hope.
- He looked concerned.
- The plant grew rapidly.
- The biltong was delicious.

The next sentence I will be talking about is the w-start. The w-start is when the sentence starts with a word like when, where, whilst, while etc... Here are some examples of a w-start sentence.
- While he held me, i got lost in thoughts.
- Where did you hide it.
- Whilst the plant grew I continuously fed it.
- While the biltong was drying I couldn't stop thinking about eating it.

Another type of sentence is the adverb start sentence. An adverb start is when the first word in the sentence ends with a why some of these words can be quickly, nervously, thoughtfully etc. Some examples of a adverb start are...
- Quietly, the dog whimpered.
- Carelessly, she slammed the door.
- Nervously, she coated her meat with salt.
- Joyfully, he watched his plant grow.

We were told about these sentences to help make our stories exciting. I hope you learnt about a new sentence.

Te Tiriti O Waitangi

Hello fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post today's blog post is about the treaty of waitangi. For the last period we had of Who are we?, we were watching a Aotearoa history show about the Treaty Of Waitangi. Here is the information I gathered.

In the late 1830's the Māori population was between 100,000 - 70,000 people. There was a drop in population because of war and sickness'. One of these wars were horrible and impacted a lot of peoples lives. This is how it all began.

The missionaries were unhappy because the people in the town were all drinking and there was a lot of  prostitution. There was also a lot of unfair trading happening.

Edward Wakefield went to jail for trying to marry a underage women he was sentenced for three years in prison. Once he got out of prison he set up a company. He made this company so he could buy cheap land of the Māori.  There was a argument.

There was settlement made to stop fighting this happened in the bay of islands. This fighting was because the British saw France as a threat this was because the French wanted to colonize New Zealand for them selves but the British didn't like that they wanted to do that. So there was fighting.

Before the Treaty begun there was a lot of disagreement between the Māori and British. The British settled into a part of New Zealand and put there flag there but one of the Māori chiefs was not happy and kept cutting down the British flag one day he got so annoyed that he lit the British village on fire. Then began the war.

The Māori had a very good tactic of fighting in the war. They would build underground bunkers and hide there. There would be other Māori people hiding behind the wooden polls that led to the village.
The British wouldn't see anyone there and go to enter the village and then the defenders(people that were hidden behind the polls) would jump out and shoot them.

The British ended up bringing someone called William Hobson into New Zealand to help end some of the fighting and to make everything fair.

Then begun the Treaty Of Waitangi. you may know the two written Treaty's were different there was a chunk that was written differently meaning the Māori and the British had different understandings of the treaty.

In the end the British ended up breaking promises and they unfairly took the land. People still till this day disagree with what they did.

I hope you learnt something from this blog post if you have any questions leave a comment on the post.

Science Story Time

Hello fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post today's blog post is about the different types of sentences and I will also be sharing my story with you. So for this task we were told to use multiple different sentences some of these being w- start, adverb start and short sentence.

We had to add 1 W- Start sentence a W- Start sentence is a sentence that starts with where, while, when etc. The next thing we had to add was 2 adverb starts. Adverb starts are sentences that start like this, Carelessly, she slammed the door, Quietly the dog whimpered etc. Once we had added those we had to add one short sentence which as you can imagine is a sentence with no more than 5 words, but the sentence has to make sense and has to have everything that a normal sentence would have.

This is the piece of work that I have created.

I felt his hands go cold and watched his eyes roll into the back of his head. Unfortunately, I watched him die. While this was happening, his parents were all happy in Bali. I couldn't believe them. Quietly, I embraced my father in a hug and wished to never leave.

So that is my piece of work I hope you enjoyed reading it.

Early Encounters In Aotearoa

For Who are we ? hurumanu we have been learning about New Zealand's history this is what I have learnt so far.

The first European explorer to arrive in Aotearoa was Abel Tasman he arrived in 1642 he named the land Nova Zealandia this was the first running into with Māori and it did not go well. The next European that arrived in Aotearoa was James Cook. he arrived in 1769 the chief navigator's name was Tupai. The Europeans brought pigs, potatoes, rats and diseases. The Māori and Australians exchanged things to get more valuable and necessary items and also they got not so necessary items one of them being muskets [Guns] and alcohol.

There ended up being a war called the musket wars some people wanted to name it potato wars as it was also about potatoes as the Māori needed potatoes because it gave the warriors more nutrients and also they could travel for longer with out running out of food. These wars ended up ending in the 1830's.

This Is Just To Say

Hello fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post today we had to make a poem. This poem was based off a poem by Williams Carlos Williams called This Is Just To Say. We had to think about the worst thing that happened in our life and then we had to take parts out of his poem and turn them into the worst thing that happened in our life. We had to keep the shape of the poem the same though.
Here is my poem.

Hope you liked the poem.

How To Preserve Meat ~ Scientific Method.

Today in science we are learning to preserve meat by using different methods, for this task we had to focus on one method i'm focusing on salt curing.

Aim ~ The aim of today's task is to learn how to preserve meat by salt curing.

Method ~  You grab the salt and rub it on either side of the thing you are planning to salt cure.

Equipment :
~ Salt ~
~ The thing you are salt curing ~
~Seasoning [ optional ]~
~Paper towels~
~Knife~

Prediction ~ I predict that by salt curing the meat it will draw moisture out of it also adding a salty flavour into the mix.

Instructions :
1. Wash your hands.
2. Rub salt on the object you are salt curing.
3. You hang the salted object up with string.
4. Then you leave it for about a week to dry.
5. Once this is done you take it down from the string and eat it.

Discussion~
What happens to the object once it has been salt cured ?
The object no longer has bacteria if it held it and the object will have obtained a salty flavour. This will also dry out the meat as salt draws out moisture.

What will happen if you put to much salt on the object?
It may become extremely dry and the salt will crystallise on the object.

Results ~ Fill this in once done with experiment.
