Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post I will be talking about what I have been doing for art. So for art as you may know we have been doing a variety of different arts e.g watercolor, tapa cloth etc. All of that art work was put together and we made a portfolio. My part of my portfolio that I am most proud of is the watercolor because of the turn out of the blending that I did also because I love watercolor. Something challenging that was in this portfolio was the tapa cloth because you had to draw six different scenes from a video we watched. As you may know we also had some poetry about the art and videos we watched my favourite type of poetry we did was the diamante poem as you could say more and describe more things meaning you weren't as limited on ideas. Overall I really enjoyed doing art this year.
Here is my portfolio......
I am a student at in Uru Mānuka. In 2020 I was a year 8 and in 2021 I will be a year 9. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas.

100 Word Challenge
Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post I will be telling you what I have been doing for Wānanga. So for Wānanga I had to do something called the 100 word challenge basically you are given a prompt and you have to write a story but there can only be 100 words in that story.
Here is my story....
Here is my story....
I watched the bear come out of hiding slowly moving into the water getting ready to pounce on a fish. The water moved calmly. I felt relaxation coming over me. I lost concentration of the bear and it wandered off back into the wilderness. I followed its every step making sure not to get caught. My leg got caught in a branch and I fell over toppling down the hill in agony. Then I started to wish I never came. The bear started slowly walking towards me. My heart beat got faster and faster until I lost consciousness.
The end
Hope you liked my story.

PB4L
Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post I will be talking about the task that was given to me for HR. So for HR we were asked to create a D.L.O about PB4L and explaining why some of the rules for the school make sense. We were aloud to be in a pair and I chose to be in a pair with my friend Felicity. PB4L in case you don't know what it means stands for positive behavior for learning. We were asked to do this task so that the teacher knows our understanding of why those rules are their. We are trying to encourage our school to follow the rules and show the possibilities of what can happen if you don't follow the rules.
Here is my D.L.O.......

Chapter 10-12 { Paperboy }
Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post I will be talking about what has happened int he chapters 10-12 of Paperboy. The novel study group was given tasks to do based off of certain chapters for these chapters we have to think about What we notice about the way that dialogue is written within Paperboy and why we think the author chose to write this way?
I think that the dialogue of the story is very formal there isn't much slang and there is a lot of fancy vocabulary and the sentences have been very detailed to the point were I feel your reading some ones actual story. I think the author chose to write this way because the way it is written might mean something to him or bring back memories or something like that. I also think he chose that way or writing because he wanted it to be different compared to other stories he has read or written, or it could just be because of where he is from because different places write differently.
The next thing we have to do is write a summary on what happened in chapters 10-12. Here is my summary of what happened in chapters 10-12.
Little Man tried to sneak into Ara T's shed to get his knife back and then he heard Ara T coming back with his cart so he grabbed a shovel and whacked Ara T in the stomach with the shovel and ran back home. When he arrived home he saw mam with a black eye and it looked like she had been bet up. The next morning after he does both of those things he remembers that he left his bag at the front of Ara T's shed and he sees if its still there but its not, he then decides that he will just ask Rat's parents for the spare bags that Rat owns but he knows that its not a good impression for the last week of doing the paper route. After all of this happens Mam and Little Man decide to go the zoo they end up taking a photo together Mam wearing a large peacock hat and Little Man wearing a cowboy hat that covered his ears. Little man ended up keeping the photo and put it in a drawer.

Volume
Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post I will be talking about my understanding of what volume is and I will be talking about the other things involved with volume for instance the number 3.
Last week for math's we measured things in the gym for instance the actual gym and one of the ball bins we had to record the information in a doc. As I was talking about in the opening sentences the number 3 is used to show that it is volume as you may know you put a 2 above the m cm and km when you are doing area and perimeter you use the 3 for the exact same reason as the 2. 3 basically just shows that it is volume instead of other ways of measuring things.
Volume means to measure the amount of liquid or possible liquid that is going into or in a container for instance soda you usually see a 1.5L on the bottle that is what people who do volume are measuring they are seeing the amount of liquid in a bottle or container. Here is an example of converting two different measurements 7.5L = ______________mL the answer is 7500ml you just add two zero's,and if your changing 7500ml into L you subtract the zero's.
I hope you learnt something from my blog post :)

Chapters 7-9 { Paperboy }
Kia Ora fellow readers for today's blog post I will be answering questions based off of the novel I read called "Paperboy". I will be answering these questions in a paragraph.
So around chapters 3-5 there is conflict between Ara T and Little Man this conflict is created because Ara T won't give Little Man his knife back this causes a bit of conflict because Little Man wants his knife back."If I told mam that Ara T took my knife and wouldn't give it back". This could be resolved by Ara T giving the knife back and saying sorry to Little man for keeping it.
Little Man likes Mr Spiro because he is easy to talk to and Little Man thinks Mr Spiro is different from the other adults meaning he is calm with the way he talks and he doesn't seem pitiful and has a lot of knowledge on Little Mans speech impediment. Little Man also finds him very caring.
Speech pathologists help people with speech problems or difficulty in communication they help by giving them things to do when they get stuck on a word or do not understand it. They also help with speaking, listening, understanding language, reading, writing, social skills, stuttering and using voice in Little Mans case stuttering. They help people by giving them exercises to help with these things.
"I knew if I told Mam".Mam is the family's maid. Her role is to do the chores and make sure the house is clean and ready for the parent's to come home to.

Water Colour Art
Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post I will be talking about what I have been doing for art hurumanu. So for art we have been doing a lot of projects e.g weaving and making tapa cloth for today's art we looked at the different textures you can use in art for example, splatting, dripping, blending and salt. We were given a piece of paper with four squares on it each square had a different texture at the top and you had to do that texture in the given box. We then had to choose two colour's from the paint box I chose orange and yellow half way through I ran out of the yellow so had to use a different one. I used warm colours for my techniques. I created tone, contrast and texture by using different brush strokes different colours and using different techniques.

Drama
Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post I will be talking about what I have been doing for Drama which is called "Speaking My Truth". One of the tasks we have been doing is called the ice berg basically you draw a triangle and then put a water line about half way. On the top half you put all the obvious emotions the character was feeling or felt and for the bottom half you put the non obvious ones meaning getting deeper into the feelings and going from what the text says to discover an emotion.
Our next task was to each choose a character from the story Benny and ask them five open questions. By open questions I mean no yes or no questions the open questions have more answer to them then closed because closed questions are one or two word answers. The five questions that I did were.
Here is a picture of the iceberg technique.
I = How did you feel about losing your friend?
Mum = Why did you swear in front of children ?
Mum = Talk about your family ..
Benny = Why did you feel the way you did when you asked your friend to go ?
I = How did your friendship start ?
I hope this blog post has all the information you need.

Chapters 4-6 { Paperboy }
Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's task I am going to be talking about what I have been doing for reading. So for reading I had to read chapters 4-6 and create a character profile on two of the people in the story I chose to create a character profile on Mrs. Worthington and Little man. I also have to right a summary on what has happened in chapters 4-6.
For chapters 4-6 Little man talks to Mr Spiro about how Mr knew that Little man had a speech impediment. Then Mr Spiro tells little man to listen to his speech teacher and do what he is told to do and overtime he will get better with his speech. After that they continue to talk and Little man continues to ask Mr Spiro questions about his stuttering. Little man discovers in these chapters that he really liked to talk to Mr Spiro and that Mr was really easy going and easy to talk to.

Diamante Poem
Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's task I was asked to create a diamante poem based off a story we had read called "Taniwha and the Rakaia Gorge". The first thing we had to do was read the story. Then we had to make a plan for our Diamante Poem. The third thing we had to do was create a final copy of the poem. After we had done those things we were asked to make a blog post about what we did.
Here is my Diamante Poem.
Hope you liked my poem.

Vince Vawter
Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post today I will be talking about what I have been doing for reading. So We had to watch a video of the author to our novel story read the first chapter of the story. The actual reason for making this blog post was to share with you what his voice sounded like and I had to use some figurative language to describe it. I have to create one simile and highlight it in yellow and create one hyperbole and highlight it in green.
His voice was as deep as a trumpet.
His voice was so calming it could put me to sleep.
Hope you liked the hyperbole and simile I made.

Speaking My Truth
Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post I am going to be talking about what I have been doing for drama which is called "Speaking My Truth" For drama our teacher read us a story called "Benny". We have then be asked to create a blog post about this story.
So Benny is about these two friends who like to joke around on a dock and then one day everything goes wrong. Benny gets jealous that his friend is always the one to save the child and he ends up pushing the friend off of the dock and causes a lot of emotional pain for the parent watching over the child. So basically they go onto the dock over top of the ocean and Benny jumps off and tips the child and then his friend helps the child and usually gets an ice cream or money and they share it, but as I said one day Benny feels that his friend thinks hes better then him and shoves him over top of the dock and his friend slams his arm on the canoe and tips it then Benny jumps in and tries to save the child but it looks like hes trying to drown him and he ends up getting himself in even more trouble they then see police lights and head for the hills and then they both lose each other.

Reading Week 9
Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's task I will be writing a paragraph about the novel book I have been reading called "Paperboy".
This novel is about a young boy named Little Man and his stuttering. So far I have read chapters 1-3 these chapters aren't long but definitely aren't short. I have found out that Little Man takes over his friends job as paperboy while he goes and see's his family on a farm. But because of his speech impediment he struggles to make conversation with the people and one lady overhears him saying pitch but thought he was swearing, in this part of the story it causes a bit of conflict because the lady thought she was being called a name but she wasn't and then Little Man writes an apology and delivers it to her. The next time he delivers to her house she invites him in for a lemonade and he says he can't because he has to complete delivering the papers but then she says that he can come over the next day she also said she would pay every week instead of month and Little Man interprets her other side and really likes it.
Hope this explained well.

Art
Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post I will be talking about what I have been doing for art. So for art I have been making a tapa as you may have seen from my last blog post about art.
The first thing we had to do was read a story called " The Creation Of Tuna". This story was about a tuna who got killed and sliced into pieces there were obviously different things in this story for instance Trees a lake, grass, tuna....etc we had to choose 6 things from this story and create a piece of art from it we first like always made a draft and then we made a final copy. Today we were inking the paper by inking I mean we got ink and put it onto the paper to make the crayon ( Final copy) Bold. For the next lesson we will be going over the crayon with charcoal to make the final copy even bolder then before.
It has been the next lesson and we have outlined and colored in with the charcoal. I really liked inking the paper. Something I would do different next time is I wouldn't use the crayon I would use a pencil or something because the charcoal didn't show up as well as it could have. There were three things we were focusing on these things were contrast/tone and colour.
Here is a photo of my finished tapa cloth.

Drama Week 8
Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post I will be talking about what we have been doing for drama. So for the past week now we have been doing freeze frames. A freeze frame is were you get into one position and hold it for 3 seconds you can do a various amount of positions but you cannot move whilst in a position. The multiple or single position/s must describe a scene in a book or movie.
One of our teacher's Miss Clark read a story to us called "Bok Choy". We then had to identify and draw significant events in the main scenes of the story there were 6 in total. We were then put into groups the groups were from 1-6 each group was given a scene and we had to make a freeze frame based off of that scene.
Today we were asked to create a freeze frame based off of the scene given to us and they would take a photo of it. When we were in the frame we would have to give a adjective to describe how they character would feel or felt. We were given the scene were there was a boy named Jacob he was drowning and saw some upcoming rocks.

Novel Study Reading Week 8
Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post i'm going to be answering some questions about a novel I am going to read called "Paperboy" its by a writer called Vince Vawter.
What is your first impression on the novel ?
My first impression was that the novel looked very old and I found the cover very intriguing. I am looking forward to reading the story though.
How do you think this story relates to "Speaking My Truth" ?
I think it relates because he becomes confident in himself and isn't as insecure with stuttering. Speaking my truth means to be true to yourself, and he becomes true to himself when he accepts that everyone has an insecurity and that stuttering isn't that bad.
What are you most looking forward to in the novel study ?
I am looking forward to seeing if he overcomes his insecurity and to see if his speech impediment is fixed.
Hope you enjoy reading this blog post :)

The Present
Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's task we were asked to watch a video called "The Present" and answer some questions that were given to us based off of the video. Here is the link to the video Link.
How would you describe the boy at the start of the video ?
I would say he was really conserved and rude to the dog at first but he was also really concentrated on his video games. Physically he looked healthy and normal. In other way's he seemed very frustrated and a negative person.
What did he think of his present ? How do you know ? Why did he feel that way ?
When he first opened his present he looked really surprised until he noticed that the doggo had a missing leg he then found it disgusting and hated it. He felt this way because he only had one leg and he didn't like knowing his dog had a missing leg to. He may have also felt this way because his mother was trying to be sympathetic and he took the sympathy the wrong way, meaning he thought that she bought the dog because it had one missing leg just like the boy.
What lesson did the boy learn by the end of the video ?
He learnt that he shouldn't take advantage of even the small things in life. He also learnt to appreciate what was given to him and that him and the dog weren't that different after all. Another thing he learnt was to respect everything no matter what.
Why is it important to be grateful for what we have ?
It is important to be grateful for what we have because other people may not have the same advantages that we have and they might only get whats known as necessities meaning the things you need to live. You should also be grateful because the person who got you what was given to you in this case the dog might have a reason for giving it to you and they will have put a lot of thought into the gift.

Benny Reading
Hello fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post for today's blog post I will be answering some more questions about the story I have been reading called "Benny".
What is the problem in the story ?
The problem is Benny wants to be the hero and his friend also wants to be the hero and in the end there ends up being some friendship problems.
What lesson does this story teach ?
This story teaches you to never do something without thinking about all the possible things that could happen. Basically i'm saying that the lesson is to think before you say or in the stories case do.
What lesson did the character learn ?
Benny learnt to never do something that could in anyway inflict pain onto your friends where as his friend learnt that he didn't know Benny as well as he thought he did.
Do you connect with any of the characters ? In what way ?
Yes, I can connect with one of the characters I can connect with Benny's friend because I was once put in a position where my friend was telling me to do something and I didn't want to be put in that place.
Give the story a ranking out of 5.
I would give this story a 3 out of 5 because it wasn't the best story I have ever read but it did give a nice message. I also didn't like how it didn't tell you if they ended up being friends again.
Hope you enjoyed my blog post.

Reading Week 8
Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post today's blog post is going to be about what the story I have recently been reading called "Benny" is about.
The story Benny is about a young boy and his friend they usually joke around near the lake and traumatize young children and one day they decide to play there tricks on another young boy but this time nothing goes right and Benny seems to do something that doesn't reflect good behavior he is used to his friend being the hero and saving the child and him the bad guy who puts the child into the situation and he get's jealous and want's to be the hero for once. But as I said everything goes wrong and Benny is once again seen as the bad guy. In the end they have some friendship problems and they don't see each other for at least a while because they go to different High Schools.
I hope you enjoyed reading this blog post.

Benny
Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post today's blog post is going to be based off of the story I have been reading called "Benny". For this task I am going to be answering questions that the teacher has given us once again based off of the story "Benny".
What are some of the differences between Benny and his friend ?
Some of the differences are the height for instance Benny is really tall where as his friend is really short. Another one is Benny is muscly and has fat on him but his friend is skinny.
How does Benny's friend think about Benny's new house ?
His friend finds it different from the houses that he is used to being around for instance the new house that Benny is living in has security cameras and gates.

How did the boy’s mother feel about the incident? Do you think her reactions are justified? Why/why not? I think the mother of the boy would feel very frightened because she couldn't help or control what happened. I think her reaction wasn't the best reaction given because Benny and his friends are also kids and they didn't mean for it to happen but I also understand why her reaction was the way it was. It was because imagine if you had a young child and it looked like a boy ( Benny ) was trying to drown him.
What is the author’s purpose in writing this text? How do you know?
I think that the author's purpose in writing this text is to send a message to younger children. I think that message is to never mess around even if your doing it as a joke or for a laugh always think about how it could affect other's.
What themes are explored in this text ?
I don't completely understand the question but some of the settings are the lake and the warf that leads to the lake. The place behind the ice cream shop and a house.
Are the answers detailed enough ?
Art Week 8
Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post we were asked to create a haiku poem off of a story we read called "The Creation Of Tuna". Our first task was to create a tapa cloth and the design had to be off of the story we read called "The Creation Of Tuna". The task we were given today is to create a haiku.
This is the haiku that I created I hope you like it I focused on the water part of my tapa cloth.
The water glistened,
It had a frantic current,
there was a tuna.
I hope you liked reading my haiku.
