How To Preserve Meat ~ Scientific Method.

Today in science we are learning to preserve meat by using different methods, for this task we had to focus on one method i'm focusing on salt curing.

Aim ~ The aim of today's task is to learn how to preserve meat by salt curing.

Method ~  You grab the salt and rub it on either side of the thing you are planning to salt cure.

Equipment :
~ Salt ~
~ The thing you are salt curing ~
~Seasoning [ optional ]~
~Paper towels~
~Knife~

Prediction ~ I predict that by salt curing the meat it will draw moisture out of it also adding a salty flavour into the mix.

Instructions :
1. Wash your hands.
2. Rub salt on the object you are salt curing.
3. You hang the salted object up with string.
4. Then you leave it for about a week to dry.
5. Once this is done you take it down from the string and eat it.

Discussion~
What happens to the object once it has been salt cured ?
The object no longer has bacteria if it held it and the object will have obtained a salty flavour. This will also dry out the meat as salt draws out moisture.

What will happen if you put to much salt on the object?
It may become extremely dry and the salt will crystallise on the object.

Results ~ Fill this in once done with experiment.
