Home Economics

Kia Ora fellow readers and welcome back to another blog post. For today's blog post I will be explaining what we did in our practical lesson for Home Economics. So at the moment, we are learning about Nutrients and what they do for our body. For our lesson on Thursday, we made a chicken stir fry, we were put into groups of either 3 or 4 and as our teacher, Miss Hindson went through the instructions we were to complete what was said.

 Here is the recipe...

Chicken Stir Fry

Ingredients:

1 Chicken Breast

1 Carrot - julienne strip

1 Onion - diced

3-4 pieces of Broccoli - small florets

1 Zucchini - sliced

Other Vegetables - capsicum, mushrooms, peas, corn, celery, chilli etc

2T Sesame oil

1 pkt 2 min Noodles

Method:

  1. Cut chicken into strips

  2. Place chicken in a glass bowl with sesame oil. Mix together

  3. Prepare vegetables

  4. Sauté chicken and onions together. Sauté means to cook quickly to brown.

  5. Add broccoli and carrots and stir fry (cook) for five minutes.

  6. Add the remaining vegetables and cook for a further 5 min

  7. Bring a pot of water to the boil

  8. Add the broken noodles into the boiling water and cook for 2 minutes

  9. Drain noodles in a colander and add to the vegetable and chicken mixture. Mix together lightly

  10.  Serve

The food that we made smelt really good as we were making it, and when we put the chicken into the pan the sesame oil that was with the chicken was very overpowering and same with the soy sauce when that was added. The end product tasted amazing the sweet chilli added a much-needed spice. The texture of the food was alright but as a group learned if you cook the noodles for too long they will become slimy. In the end, the food looked presentable.

The nutrients used in this recipe were fibre, carbohydrates, protein, fats, and vitamins.

Overall I believe that my group worked really well together and we were done with what we needed to do before the next instructions were given.

Here is a photo of all the ingredients cut up...

  1. Hi Shelby. Awesome Blog Post. Well done! The sensory analysis of the cooking process and the end product is very good.
What nutrient is present in the Chicken used in this recipe?
